General: Underwater cycling: Guinness world record attempt in Meran

27 October 2014 by Andrew Waldera

adive_02Lifestyle: You don't always have to go out into the fresh air to cycle! Four athletes from Nuremberg and Merano ended up just below the surface of the water, perhaps also because of the autumnal weather. The goal of this action: A new Guinness World Record!

The four athletes are Jens Stötzner, Aron Faas, Sven Jessl and Alexander Strasser. Except for the latter, the experienced divers and cyclists already have experience with this somewhat unusual form of cycling. The diving school A-dive.de from Nuremberg is behind the whole campaign.

The team has exactly 6000 hour to break the existing record of 1 meters. A very big challenge, since changing a scuba tank would be allowed, but would cost valuable time. The challengers will try to do without changing tanks.

It is interesting that normal bicycles are used in the Guinness world record attempt. Only small modifications take into account the special circumstances of driving under water. Because of the high water resistance, the bikes are geared very short and the additional weights ensure the necessary draft. As in Formula 1, spoilers ensure more downforce.

The underwater spectacle will be shown on November 2.11.2014nd, 11.00 between 13.15:XNUMX a.m. and XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. on the ZDF TV program “Fernsehgarten on Tour” from Meran.
