Market: Disc brakes on racing bikes are coming! In addition to perfect deceleration - regardless of the weather conditions - disc brakes convince with minimal maintenance. Reason enough for Centurion and Merida to also offer their popular Race models with a disc from 2015.
Centurion gigadrive disc
The popular carbon racer Gigadrive has been completely redesigned for use with disc brakes. The special requirements required a modification of the frame and the fork. A carbon fiber fork developed in-house by Centurion is installed in all disc racers in the Gigadrive series. The 15 mm quick-release thru axle provides additional rigidity of the fork. The Centurion Gigadrive Disc looks very tidy thanks to the internal lines and cables. 25 mm wide tires are mounted on the racer, but 28 mm wide tires can also be used to increase comfort. The Gigadrive Disc is offered in two versions: Gigadrive Disc 4000 and Gigadrive Disc Team. At 4000 kilograms, the Gigadrive Disc 8,1 weighs just 400 grams more than the Gigadrive 4000 with Shimano Ultegra brakes. Centurion Gigadrive Disc 4000 is available in the sizes 50, 53, 56 and 59 cm at a price of 2899 euros. The top model Gigadrive Disc Team has the Ultegra Di2 electronic drivetrain directly on board. For the thoroughbred racer, which weighs only 7,6 kilograms, 4999 euros have to be put on the counter.
Merida Ride Disc
Merida has thoroughly revised the proven carbon touring racing bike Ride and is also launching a disc version for 2015. A newly designed carbon fiber fork with a 15 mm thru-axle is also used on the Merida. When developing the frame, special emphasis was placed on comfort and suitability for everyday use. Special mounts on the frame and fork allow the installation of a specially developed mudguard. The frame is prepared for switching to Di2 gears. The lines or trains also run inside the Merida Ride Disc. Entry into the class of disc racing bikes is possible with the Merida Ride Disc 3000 from as little as 1599 euros. The 8,9 kg light bike is equipped with Tektro Spyre brakes and 160 mm brake discs. It is shifted with a Shimano 105 SS rear derailleur and Shimano Tiagra Dual Compound shifters. The top model of the series is the Ride Disc 2899 with a price of 7000 euros. Built with a Shimano Ultegra rear derailleur, a Shimano Ultegra crankset and the Shimano RS685 160 disc brake, the Centurion Ride Disc 7000 weighs just 7,6 kilograms.
