Test: Almost every cyclist, triathlete or runner should be familiar with the Sugoi brand, which was founded almost 30 years ago in the Canadian outdoor Mecca. Today we looked at the Sugoi RSE SubZero winter cycling gloves.
The Sugoi RSE SubZero come in an eye-catching design. The gloves are kept subtle in color, but the large metal Sugoi emblem on the back of the hand attracts attention. A positive side effect of this optical accessory is that it reflects in the light and, together with the other reflective elements, makes the Subzero Glove a real light organ in the dark.
When you put it on for the first time, you immediately notice that the Sugoi glove is relatively small, especially for the fingers. If in doubt, it is better to choose one size larger. Otherwise, the Subzero Gloves fit the hand very well, although the cut can certainly be described as very bike-specific. The thumb and forefinger are very long relative to the rest of the fingers, and the palm itself is rather small. What works excellently on the handlebars and automatically puts the hand in the right grip position may be a bit annoying for some in everyday life.
It is also noticeable that the inner glove is not welded to the outer fabric. As a result, the two gloves tend to slip against each other when gripping the handlebars and you have to be careful not to pull out the inner glove when you take them off. Otherwise, we liked the very good padding in the palms, which supports the hand at the right points and prevents uncomfortable pressure. Silicone prints on the fingertips ensure a secure grip on the controls at all times - unfortunately the coating does not work with touchscreens.
While our impression was rather mixed up to the first test drive, the gloves inspired us in the ice-cold practice of everyday winter life. Temperatures around freezing point, icy wind, humid air - none of this impressed the Sugoi RSE SubZero Gloves in the slightest. Our hands always stayed comfortably warm, even our fingers didn't feel cold at all. In addition, there is the waterproof outer material, which reliably protects the hands from moisture.
