Cyclocross: Well then - the three Belgian cross pros Tom Meeusen, Laurens Sweeck and Bart Wellens are allowed to take part in the Cross DM next weekend in Tabor, Czech Republic. This has now been decided by the Belgian Sports Court.
A week ago, the three top Belgian drivers from their own association were part of the national squad been deleted, as they were acutely suspected of having received prohibited ozone treatments from doctor Chris Mertens. Meeusen was only at fault a few days ago rejected and announcedto want to fight for participation in the World Cup. He seems to have won this fight.
Today the Belgian Sports Court ruled in favor of the three riders as there is no solid evidence of such treatment and mere suspicion is not enough to ban them from the World Championships. If the Belgian association still does not nominate them, they face a fine of up to €50.000
Since the deadline for registering the riders expires tonight, the matter seems to have been finally clarified, at least with regard to the World Cross Country Championships. Meeusen reacted relieved to the verdict – via Twitter he said the following: “What a roller coaster of emotions this week. There is still justice! Thanks to everyone who stood by me! #dopefree”
