Product news: Vittoria IKON: racing shoe with star potential

23 January 2015 by Marcus Degen

Market: Vittoria brand road bike shoes are among the big and emotional names in Italian cycling. Somehow everyone knows the shoes, which are always conspicuously designed, but recently they were hardly to be found in specialist shops in Germany. That should change since the company Hochschorner from the south of Munich took over the sales for Germany. The hope is justified, after all, Hochschorner knows how to do it - see bike computers from Ciclosport, which have been an institution on racing bike handlebars for decades.

Now Vittoria is launching a new top model with the aptly chosen name IKON to coincide with the start of the 2015 season – we will soon find out in a test whether the shoe has what it takes to become an icon. The upper material consists of "MicroFiber Soft Touch" and the Vittoria "One Frame Technology". This combination of a black frame and the color contrast in orange, white or green gives the shoe its conspicuousness, which is a bit reminiscent of the eye-catching kicks of the football stars at the World Cup. The breathability should also be above average thanks to the micro-lase-cutting method.

But not only the upper shoe has been revised at Vittoria - the new heel area and the tech-mesh inner lining should provide optimal support and give a feeling as if the shoe were part of the foot. In order to increase this effect, the "Performance insole" can be individually adjusted by heat treatment of the sole of the foot.

Since the aim of this "professional shoe" is that drivers can race six hours a day with it, the shoe with the Vittoria SSP closure system can also be easily opened, closed or adjusted while driving. The pros of the newly formed Italian-Japanese Nippo-Vini Fantini team around ex-Giro winner Damiano Cunego have been extremely enthusiastic about the Ikon - it's also a real eye-catcher, that's for sure.
