Cycling: The Topeak Ergon Racing Team won the sixth and last stage of the Andalucia Bike Race 2015. With the win, Lakata and Hynek were able to confidently assert themselves as the leading team in the overall standings.
On the almost 56 kilometers of the final stage, the Austrian/Czech duo built up a considerable lead of 19 seconds over second-placed Oliveira/Serralheiro. No duo has finished second as often as the two Portuguese from Team Selecao Nacional Liberty Seguros 1. With four second places and second place in the overall standings, Oliveira/Serralheiro should end the Andalucia Bike Race 2015 with a laugh, but probably also with a smile look at the crying eye Surprisingly, the Möbel Märki-Giant Swiss Team 2 with the two Swiss riders, Stirnemann and Stutzmann, came third on the day. But there was already a gap of 2:16 minutes to the winning duo.
Although the Extremadura MTB Team with Romero and Pinto finished third in the overall standings, the joy will be limited. The Spanish/Portuguese duo won no fewer than four stages of this year's Andalucia Bike Race, but were thrown way back by a defect on stage three. Although the team was able to catch up to the top of the overall standings, the duo suffered another defect on the last stage. With 15th place and a deficit of more than eight minutes, the Extremadura MTB Team was at least able to keep third place in the overall ranking.
The ladies Milena Landtwing and Esther Süss can claim a sovereign overall victory. Although Landtwing/Süss only finished sixth on the last stage, the Swiss women, who started for the Wheeler Pro Team, left the duo Zakelj/Galacia (Polar Trek Team) behind in the overall classification with a lead of 4:28 minutes. The day's win on the last stage went to Michiels and Pirard (Belgian Cycling Team), who finished the Andalucia Bike Race 2015 in third place overall.
Unfortunately, Markus Kaufmann was confirmed to have broken his collarbone. The Centurion-Vaude rider fell in the early stages of stage five and was taken to the hospital. Participation in the Cape Epic is therefore excluded.
