Cycling: Szymon Godziek takes home victory at the ninth edition of the White Style. He was followed by two Brits, Matt Jones in second and Daryl Brown in third. In addition to the massive slopestyle course, the spectators really let it rip at the Big (Shr)ED – Fat Bike Battle. At the end, a great fireworks display rounded off the winter evening in Leogang.
The young Pole Szymon Godziek wins the first contest of the 2015 season in Leogang. His winning run was full of technical tricks and peppered with varied moves. Highlights included a smooth tailwhip, a backflip barspin, a truck driver off the boner log, and to top it all off, a huge backflip tailwhip. "I'm so happy. I've been skiing so much lately that I've barely had time to train. But the course was great and I felt really good. This is the best start to the 2015 FMB season for me”. Now the 23-year-old is going back to Poland, where he is celebrating his victory and Valentine's Day with his fiancée.
Close on his heels was Brit Matt Jones, who recently joined the Red Bull family. Although Matt dominated practice and qualifying, he missed out on victory by a hair's breadth. His runs included a squeaky clean 360 and a technical 360 tailwhip, a backflip tailwhip, a truckdriver off the boner log, and a huge backflip Superman. If the White Style sets the tone for the upcoming season, Matt Jones definitely has an exciting year ahead. Despite just missing out on the win, Matt was pleased with his second place finish: "I smell like champagne, so life isn't that bad!".
After winning FISE China at the end of last season, Daryl Brown is now starting the new year with a third place finish. This could be the beginning of a successful period for the Brit. Unfortunately, this time he couldn't pull off his signature trick, the one-hand Superman Seatgrab. But he showed viewers an Opposite Truckdriver and a massive backflip tuck no-hander.
