Product news: Kitzbühel Alps: New 3D tour portal online

March 18, 2015 by Andrew Waldera

Market: The Kitzbühel Alps in Tyrol are among the most attractive cycling regions in Europe. With a special web service, this wonderful area can now be explored and discovered even better. The new 3D tour portal can be used to call up the latest tours anytime, anywhere - and without any software installation directly in the browser!

Based on the map material of the state of Tyrol (TIRIS), cyclists, hikers and runners can display the tours in 2D or 3D. The operation of the interface is very clearly designed and intuitive. The desired sporting activity can be selected using pictograms. The 3D view gives the user a particularly good overview of the course of the tour. Distance and altitude can be weighed up and assessed very well in the spatial representation. The tours can be exported as PDF files or GPX data for further use or further processing. This means that navigation systems can also be fed with the data in an uncomplicated manner.

The innovative system was developed in cooperation with the Tyrolean company General Solutions. The service is aimed at both the local population and guests in the four regions of Hohe Salve, Brixental, St. Johann and PillerseeTal. The 3D maps can currently be used with the web browsers Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer from version 11. Safari users should also be able to use the 3D maps with the next update of the Apple web browser. Work is currently underway to support mobile devices.
