cycling: Giro del Trentino: Bora-Argon 18 wins team time trial

21 April 2015 by Michael Faiss

Cycling: At the start of the four-day Giro del Trentino tour, the German underdog Bora-Argon 18 won the team time trial. The ProContinental team prevailed against WorldTour teams such as Team Sky in 2nd place and Astana in 3rd place.

Only a blink of an eye separated Bora-Argon 18 with drivers Dominik Nerz, Emanuel Buchmann, Paul Voss, Cesare Benedetti, Bartosz Huzarski, Patrick Konradm José Mendez and Cristiano Salerno from second-placed Team Sky, which also included WorldTour leader Richie Porte is at the start. Only a few hundredths separated the two teams, whose times were each rated at 14:05 minutes. For the 13,3 km long distance from Riva del Garda to Arco, however, the third-placed team Astana needed 14:09 minutes.

At the top of the overall standings is the 22-year-old Italian Cesare Benedetti from the ranks of Bora-Argon 18 - of course something very special at his home game, as sporting director Enrico Poitschke knows: “It's a dream come true for Cesare. It's his home tour and he's leading it now." Benedetti should still enjoy the moment, because it is highly questionable whether the favorites around the Australian Richie Porte will be able to be duped again tomorrow. A demanding stage with a wavy profile, four categorized climbs and a mountain finish awaits.
