Test: The portfolio of US manufacturer Specialized has long included more than just complete bikes. The Californians also usually shine with great quality when it comes to accessories and clothing - this is also the case with the Specialized Air Tool Carbon Road.

Carbon as far as the eye can see - the Air Tool Carbon Road is indeed a feast for the eyes. The handle and the pump cylinder are made entirely of the noble carbon-reinforced plastic, while the piston rod is made of aluminum and the pump head is made of plastic. At 155mm, the Specialized pump is a comfortable size - long enough to pump comfortably and yet not too big for most jersey pockets.
The pump head is clamped onto the valve via the steel bracket. The Air Tool Carbon Road only works with Presta or Sclaverand valves - but hardly any other types of valves are used on the road anyway, so this limitation is probably only of importance to very few.
The clamping works absolutely reliably and without much effort - even if, of course, care should be taken to place the pump straight on the valve. The performance of the little gem is also impressive: the Specialized Air Tool Carbon Road shows its full strength especially with the narrow 23mm wide test tire. Even at high pressure from six bar, where many other pumps of this size class can only be operated with enormous effort, the Air Tool Road remains sovereign. On the other hand, the Specialized pump has its problems with the tires that are around 28mm wider: We needed almost 400 strokes for our somewhat more voluminous test tire until we reached the desired 4,5 bar.
