cycling: iXS Swiss Downhill Cup #2: Weber and Cappellari win in Lenzerheide

July 20, 2015 by Andrew Waldera

Nick Beer - SDC Lenzerheide 2015

MTB cycling: The second run of the iXS Swiss Downhill Cup took place in Lenzerheide last weekend in perfect weather. 300 drivers from 20 nations fought for the best time on the route, which, with two exceptions, corresponded completely to the World Cup course. Lutz Weber and Carina Cappellari prevailed on the final day.

After the World Cup took place in Lenzerheide two weeks ago, the Graubünden mountain village could once again look forward to hosting an important mountain bike race with the iXS Swiss Downhill Cup. The downhill slope directly below the gondola was built at great expense over the last two years. A feat that pays off: Lenzerheide will be firmly on the World Cup calendar for the next two years, and the 2018 World Championships will also take place here.

On Saturday, the Seeding Run ended very promisingly for the Radon Magura Factory Team: Both Nick Beer in the Elite Men class and Carina Cappellari in the Elite Women class were able to boast best times. The Swiss was able to prove her very good form again on Sunday and won ahead of her compatriots Lea Rutz (iXS Gravity Union) and Geraldine Fink (Biroma Racing Team). The men's podium was also completely occupied by Swiss riders: Lutz Weber (Swiss Downhill Syndicate) took first place, Nick Beer came second ahead of Martin Frei (Akira-tuning Racing). As the best German, Matthias Hafner (Team Bikepark Albstadt) finished 20th.
