MTB cycling: After stopping at the Crankworx Festival in Les Deux Alpes, the Czech Spicak hosted the iXS European Downhill Cup last weekend. Johannes Fischbach and Veronika Widmann were able to win the fourth and penultimate run of the European downhill series.
300 riders from 25 nations had to face the technically demanding descent in the Spicak bike park in changeable weather and track conditions. Rocks, stones and roots characterize the two-kilometer route with an altitude difference of 320 meters. Extremely slippery conditions required good tire and line choice. Deep dust posed a challenge at the beginning of the weekend, but rain and dense fog were the order of the day on Sunday.
The German champion Johannes Fischbach (Ghost RRP) and Jasper Jauch (Team Liteville) ensured a German double success in the men's super final. With his victory in Spicak, Fischbach also takes over the overall lead in the classification. The omens for the last race in Leogang are extremely good for the Ghost RRP driver. Despite the wet conditions on Sunday, the two German drivers were able to achieve almost the same time as in the qualifying run the day before in dry conditions. Slovenian Champion Jure Zabjek (Unior Tools Team) completed the podium.
A double success for one nation was also recorded for the women. With a narrow victory, the Italian champion Veronika Widmann (Bike Club Egna Neumarkt) was able to assert herself ahead of her compatriot Eleonora Farina (Mangusta Bike Team). German champion Sandra Rübesam (Rose Factory Racing) finished third.
The last run of the iXS European Downhill Cup 2015 will take place in September in Leogang, Austria.
