Product news: Eurobike 2015: Selle Italia NET – all-round saddles with a net design

September 21, 2015 by Michael Faiss

Eurobike / Market: The Italian saddle specialists from Selle Italia dropped a brightly colored bomb at the Eurobike last month and presented NET, a completely new line of saddles that not only stand out from the crowd visually, but also offer many technical innovations.

Selle Italia is probably one of the few manufacturers in the bicycle sector that is known to every cyclist, from commuters to racers to gravity professionals. The reason for this is of course not least the extremely wide product range of the Italians, where a suitable saddle can be found for every application. With NET, Selle Italia is now pounding a completely new line of saddles out of the ground - one or the other may ask why - after all, as already mentioned, the portfolio was extremely extensive. But there are good reasons, as we were able to find out at the booth of Germany Sales Paul Lange.

Net structure with lavender scent

The construction of the NET saddles is almost revolutionary. The development went back completely and completely rethought the bicycle saddle. The ambitious goal was: The new saddle should be lighter, more comfortable, more durable and more environmentally friendly than other saddles in this class. To achieve this goal, a PVC-free plastic shell was developed as a base, which offers excellent ventilation with a honeycomb design and is also 100% recyclable. An EVA foam sits on top of it, which is intended to provide the necessary comfort and, like the shell underneath, has holes in the honeycomb design. This allows air to flow unhindered through both layers.

The third and last layer of the Net saddle is the real highlight and at the same time gives it its name: A propylene mesh network forms the actual seat surface - the big advantage is the excellent air permeability - so the air penetrates completely from below to the rider's buttocks. The mesh surface, which is also completely recyclable, is also extremely resistant to external influences - whether careless neighbors on the bike stand or three weeks of continuous rain. A nice feature is also the light perfume - the saddle smells subtly of lavender. How long the scent lasts will have to be seen in practice.

Last but not least, the saddles also stand out visually from the crowd. This is not only due to the overall rather beefy-looking design, but above all to the extremely colorful choice of colors. There will be six designs to start with, but it is also planned that in the future it will be possible to have custom designs that can be ordered via the website. The saddle developed for all-terrain use weighs a slim 360g.

The Net saddles will be available in stores in January at an RRP of €39,00. More information is available on the official website:
