Eurobike: The e-bike drive from Shimano, called STePS, has been on the market for about 1 1/2 years. It is now getting a comprehensive update for the 2016 season, including a new display and the drive itself has also been fine-tuned. For the first time, MTBs with Shimano drives will also come onto the market.
With the update for 2016, Shimano eliminates one of the biggest criticisms of its STePS drive: The new, significantly larger and easier to read display now also offers a switch with which any connected lighting can be switched on and off directly. Also new is a system integration with the Alfine Di2 gear hub, which will in future also relieve the driver of the gear changes thanks to cadence and speed measurement: Automatic for the bike, so to speak. In 2016 there will also be a STePS drive with coaster brake for the first time.
Shimano is also taking a big step with its advance into the light off-road sector. This is made possible by a new, significantly improved and more robust battery holder and a sportier drive program that is specially optimized for use with derailleur gears. All models will also benefit from the new charger, with which the battery can now also be charged on the bike and which has already recharged the empty cells to 80% after just two hours.
