Cycling: The worldwide Gran Fondo New York racing series will also offer an event in Germany from 2016. On August 28, 2016, the first edition will start in Hamelin.
There are two routes to choose from: a 165-kilometer loop with 2.214 meters in altitude and a shorter 100-kilometer loop with 1.086 meters in altitude. GFNY boss Uli Fluhme, den Velomotion interviewed in May, is looking forward to the event: “As a native German, I am happy to be able to include GFNY Germany in the racing series. I met promoter Paul Fasse at GFNY Puerto Rico. He brings the enthusiasm and professionalism we look for at GFNY. I am very happy to be able to bring racing cyclists from all over the world closer to my home country.”
The top 10 percent of each age group will qualify for the GFNY Series Main Event, the Gran Fondo in New York. "I rode the New York Gran Fondo and GFNY Puerto Rico," explains GFNY Germany founder Paul Fasse. “I lived in Italy for many years and I am absolutely familiar with the Gran Fondo principle. A real GFNY event awaits starters: routes secured by the police, real-time measurement and exact results. It will be a great experience for athletes from all over the world!”
The route leads over the finest asphalt roads around Hamelin and many climbs in the Weserbergland. At the finish, beer and local specialties await the participants. Registration is already possible.
On Velomotion we will keep you up to date about the GFNY Hameln and will also publish an interview with organizer Paul Fasse shortly.
