Cycling: For a while now was knownthat Canyon will send the successor team of the Velocio-SRAM team, which was dissolved at the end of the season, to the Women's WorldTour in 2016. Last weekend, the bomb dropped at the Rapha Cycle Club in London: together with SRAM and other partners, the Kobelnz-based direct seller will provide an extremely prominent team for the next season newly founded Women's World Tour: Canyon//SRAM
In January, Canyon//SRAM will officially start with the team presentation, but team manager Ronny Lauke, together with the two future team riders Hannah Barnes and Tiffany Cromwell in London, gave some insights into the new team in advance to drive the front of the peloton. In addition to the namesakes Canyon and SRAM, other partners such as Rapha, Giro, Oakley, Ergon, Zipp and of course a top-class team of drivers should ensure this.
The three German riders from Velocio-SRAM will all receive a new contract and will wear Canyon//SRAM gear from the coming season: In addition to the two top riders Trixi Worrack and Lisa Brennauer, Mieke Kröger, who is just 22, will also stay with us. The team of 9 is completed by Alena Amialiusik (BLR), Hannah Barnes (GBR), Elena Cecchini (ITA), Tiffany Cromwell (AUS), Barbara Guarischi (ITA) and Alexis Ryan (USA).
The necessary technical equipment has been taken care of: The secret of the team bike has not yet been fully revealed, but we already know a few facts: Unsurprisingly, the female riders will spend most of their time on the Canyon Ultimate WMN CF SLX, which they will compete against the new one in time trials Speedmax CF SLX. In addition, the completely new, wireless SRAM RED eTap drive group and wheels and components from ZIPP are also used. The only info that was given on the subject of design was that it will be coordinated with the Rapha team kit. If the published teaser graphics are any indication, we can probably expect a black/turquoise/pink frame design.
The decision for the team was also a decision for women's cycling, as team manager Lauke emphasized again: "I'm glad that I will continue to work mostly with the people who have stood by my side in the past. We want to be successful in races but also outside of competition, to fascinate fans all over the world and to inspire women to cycle. We have the perfect team, riders and partners to put our modern and innovative approach to women's cycling into practice.”
The team motto also fits this:
Ride to advance.
Race to inspire.
Break away to challenge.
