Eurobike: With the 2016 version of the Cosmic Ultimate road bike shoe, the French manufacturer Mavic presents the logical further development of its top model and makes road cyclists go into raptures once again.
There are products that seem to want to say to the viewer with every detail: "Take a good look at me, I'm a technology leader!" The Cosmic Ultimate from Mavic, official shoe of the JLT Condor Racing Team, also undoubtedly falls into this category.
When it comes to the materials of the Cosmic Ultimate, the focus is on carbon, which is used for the only 5,5mm thick sole, the frame and the heel of the shoe. Labeled by Mavic with the generic term "Energy", these elements are intended to ensure particularly efficient power transmission and a firm hold in the shoe.
To ensure an optimal fit, two of the "Ergo Dial" twist locks are used for the lacing system of the 2016 Cosmic Ultimate. Compared to last year's model, these have been reworked and now offer an extremely fine adjustment system that allows the shoe to be adjusted to the driver's foot in 1 mm increments.
Mavic is also proud of the Ergofit 3D+ insole made of Ortholite ® foam. This material is used in two different degrees of hardness and is intended to optimally support areas of the foot that are particularly stressed, such as the instep and heel, and prevent pressure points. In addition, Ortholite ® promises optimal moisture transport and breathability and also has an antimicrobial treatment. Together with the air-permeable upper material and the ergonomic 3D tongue made of mesh, this ensures a pleasant climate in the shoe.
In addition to the extensive options for optimally adapting the shoe to the driver, the extremely low weight of just 230 grams (size 43,5) should also help ensure that Mavic's top model remains comfortable even on long rides.
The Cosmic Ultimate road shoe is available in the yellow-black color combination typical of Mavic, as well as in white-black. The manufacturer's recommended retail price is €350,00.
