Spectrum: The international Pink Ribbon Foundation has set itself the goal of raising public awareness of the risk of breast cancer in women. One of the many campaigns revolved around the topic of bicycles and cycling - private individuals, clubs and celebrities covered more than 70.000km from April to October on a specially designed route through Germany.
The PinkRibbon loop route leads - as the name suggests - in a loop shape over 4.500km through Germany. The foundation divided the route into more than 100 daily stages, along which participating restaurants, hotels and other accommodation awaited the drivers. Excursions and trips can be planned with the help of the online route planner. In addition to private individuals and clubs, there were also celebrities - in Erfurt, for example, the biathlete Kati Wilhelm rode one of the selected tours with a group. Of course, it was no coincidence that such a campaign was chosen: physical activity has been shown to reduce the risk of breast cancer.
The campaign was designed to raise awareness of breast cancer among attendees, spectators, families, etc. After completing a tour, the participants 'donated' the kilometers driven on the Pink Ribbon website - in the campaign period from April to October, more than 70.000km came together, which far exceeded everyone's expectations. Originally, the goal was to complete the 4.500km route at least once.
After this great success, things will of course continue in 2016 - if you want to take a closer look at the day trips and routes, you can do so with the planning tool on the campaign website:
