Cycling: As part of the Tour Down Under in Adelaide (Australia) on January 22, the Australian Bridie O'Donnell will be chasing the hour record. The current record is 46,273 kilometers, set by American Molly Shaffer Van Houweling on September 12 last year.
Bridie O'Donnell is considered an extremely strong time trialist. Her greatest success was winning the Australian Championship in 2008, but the now 41-year-old was also able to achieve considerable success in the years to come. Just last weekend, Bridie O'Donnell finished eighth in the time trial championships. The venue for the hour record attempt will be the Super-Drome Velodrome in Adelaide. The spectacle will be broadcast live on the Internet by the world cycling association UCI.
With the hour record set by the American Molly Shaffer Van Houweling in Aguascalientes, Mexico, the previous record of 46,064 kilometers was broken. A record set by Dutch four-time Olympic champion Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel in October 2003 and lasted until September 2015!
