cycling: Vuelta a Espana 2016 route at a glance: 10 mountain finishes and a detour to France

11 January 2016 by Michael Faiss

Stage 1: Balneario Laias – Castrelo de Mino (Team Time Trial)

Date: Saturday 20 August 2016

Length: 29,4km

Vuelta a Espana 2016

Again, a team time trial will kick off the Vuelta. But in 2016 you play it safe and avoid experiments like in 2015, when the result of the opening time trial was taken out of the ranking after protests from the drivers. The 29,4km do not offer any difficulties worth mentioning, the route is neither technically particularly demanding nor is there any altitude to collect. Nevertheless, due to the relatively long distance, there will already be larger gaps in the overall standings.
