Cycling: It has been almost four weeks since Movistar professional Adriano Malori fell on the fifth stage of the Tour de San Luis and hit his head on the asphalt. After initially being placed in an induced coma, his condition is improving and the Italian is now on his way to Spain to continue treatment.
Adriano Malori was driving between 65 and 70 km/h at the head of the field when the serious crash happened. Just before a corner, his front wheel got stuck in a crack or a hole in the road, Malori flew over the handlebars and hit the hard asphalt head first, unbraked. It was initially decided to put the 28-year-old in an induced coma to examine his brain for damage. A few days later the all clear was given and Malori was awakened from his deep sleep. After the temporary relocation to Buenos Aires, the transfer to Europe is now imminent.
“Adriano Malori will be transferred from Buenos Aires to Pamplona in Spain today in a medically equipped plane. After close collaboration between the medical team in Buenos Aires and the medical team at Movistar, everyone involved agreed that he is in excellent condition for the transfer." says the statement from Movistar. In Spain, Malori continues to be treated at the University Hospital of Navarra. There is no information yet on the further course of recovery, so we keep our fingers crossed for Adriano Malori that he will make a full recovery from the bad fall.
