Spectrum: In January 2016, ROSE Bikes GmbH in Bocholt commissioned the study "Cycling in Germany 2016". The representative study, for which 1.181 men and women between the ages of 16 and 65 were interviewed, shows that employers need to take action to make the bicycle even more attractive as an alternative to the car.
The majority of those surveyed (41%) would primarily like their employer to provide more secure bike shelters for their bikes. In a direct city comparison, Hamburg with 42% is well above Munich with 30%. It is also interesting to take a look at bicycle theft, in which Hamburg is also at the top, according to those surveyed. A shower facility at the workplace is also very high on the wish list (34%) so that you can sit freshly at your desk again when you start work. Another 34% of those surveyed would like a bonus points model, with attractive rewards in the form of vouchers or bicycle accessories for kilometers driven.
With small changes, employers can make a decisive contribution to motivating employees. 27% of German employees are in favor of relaxing the dress code. At least 25% of those surveyed would like their own company bike for customer visits. 26% see an additional incentive in bike starter packages with a helmet, rain jacket and other useful accessories. According to the study "Cycling in Germany 2016", company cars are also facing competition from bicycles: 17% of employees see bike leasing models as a good alternative to car leasing. According to employees, employers should be much more active here. When it comes to the need for action, there is actually still a lot of room for improvement, only 2% have owned a leased bike so far.
