Cycling: Just three months after her serious racing crash, Trixi Worrack celebrated her comeback to competitions at the international women's race in Auenstein last weekend. As a result of her fall at the Trofeo Binda in March, the 34-year-old had to undergo emergency surgery, during which a kidney was removed. Now the three-time Olympic participant got the green light from the doctors for Rio in August.
Now that would be an incredible story. After Trixi Worrack crashed into the handlebars of a fellow rider in Italy on March 20th, causing her to tear her kidneys, the signs are currently – only 3 months later – that she will take part in the Olympics in Rio. After the 34-year-old had to worry for a long time whether a return to professional cycling would be an option at all, she celebrated her comeback last weekend in Auenstein. "I felt good on the two stages and the time trial and I'm really happy," said the Canyon//SRAM rider.
Of course, the form is still missing after the long break and there is still a long and rocky road back to their former level of performance. But Worrack shouldn't be lacking in motivation, because after a few blood tests, the doctors gave her the green light for a possible start in Rio. The four-time time trial world champion could take a big step towards the Olympics in team driving at the German time trial championship in June. "Of course I would very much like to be there in Rio and also show there that I belong in the games," said Worrack combatively.
But no matter whether it should work out with the Olympics or not - hats off to so much fighting spirit!
