Market: From August 31st to September 04th, the Eurobike 2016 will once again be the fair par excellence in the bicycle sector. Five days of news about two-wheelers can be admired in Friedrichshafen. The Eurobike Festival Days will also take place for the first time, during which the exhibition halls will be open to end customers, who can also look forward to a huge supporting program. In the run-up to the event, we have already compiled one or two pieces of information and a preview of the highlights.
This year's trends - from racing bikes to mountain bikes
As the industry's leading trade fair, the Eurobike is still the benchmark par excellence when it comes to identifying trends in the bicycle market at an early stage. This is where the innovations of the season are presented and you get to see the products that will be in bike shops the following year. The annual trends are already apparent in the run-up to the trade fair. Before the gates of Messe Friedrichshafen open on August 31, we have already compiled some of the highlights.
Eurobike 2016 – road bike: More comfort, more tire volume
In the road bike sector, the development that has already started in recent years is likely to continue: The demand for comfort-oriented road bikes that can also easily cope with one or the other trip on gravel roads is growing. Whether you are talking about gravel, whether about endurance or just all-round racers is ultimately up to you - also because the boundaries are becoming more and more blurred. In 2017, an increasing number of manufacturers are offering frame platforms that, depending on the choice of wheels and tires, are equally at home on gravel and on the road.

Product news: Bergamont Grandurance: Endurance, Cross, Gravel - new all-round talent made of carbon
Market: With the new Bergamont Grandurance, the manufacturer from St. Pauli has a hot all-round iron in the fire. With a balanced geometry and clever detail solutions such as an optionally integrated small splash guard on the front wheel, the concept could work. During the Eurobike Media Days we were able to take a closer look at one of the models. Nowadays, who […]
In addition to the appropriate frames, such all-round bikes also need the appropriate tires (sizes). The plus pioneers from WTB have already announced one or the other innovation for the Eurobike, including slick tires with a width of 47mm.
Eurobike 2016 – Mountainbike: More electronics, more gears
Groundbreaking innovations are not to be expected for mountain bikes in 2017 either - the motto here should also be 'evolution instead of revolution'. When it comes to drives, the two top dogs, Shimano and SRAM, will continue on their chosen paths. Good for the bikers, because the choice between the different philosophies will continue to exist in the foreseeable future.
While SRAM buried the front derailleur over the course of the year and now no longer offers a single mountain bike group with more than one chain ring, Shimano countered with its electronic XT Di2 gears, which of course still come with a classic two-speed will give drive. There is no better or worse here - just a question of application and taste. Apart from the drives, we can certainly look forward to a lot of innovations in the chassis again this year - including, for example, the new metric damper dimensions.

Product news: Shimano XT Di2 M8050: XT now also electronic
Market: Starting this year, Shimano's successful XT mountain bike group will also be available in an electronic Di2 version. The Japanese bicycle giant today published the first information about the Shimano XT Di2 M8050, as the group will be officially called. From September there will be the XT-Di2, which will even have one or two features ahead of the higher-quality XTR series. There is probably […]
Eurobike 2016 – E-Bike Boom: No end in sight
It has been the topic par excellence in the bicycle industry over the last two or three years: the triumph of e-bikes from a small niche market to the driving force of the industry. Also this year, hardly any stand in the numerous exhibition halls in Friedrichshafen can do without an e-bike. Of course, the ongoing trend also means that hardly any other branch of the bicycle sector is developing so rapidly and can come up with as many innovations as electrified two-wheelers.
SRAM now has a special groupset for e-bikes that still offers a huge range with eight gears. Magura presented its Boltron suspension fork for the first time at the Eurobike Media Days, which was developed together with the motocross manufacturer WP and specially tailored to the special needs of E-MTBs. KTM and Haibike are using the new suspension fork, which is already visually very successful, on their 2017 models.
It is also eagerly awaited how the market for e-bike batteries will develop in the future. One of the market leaders, BMZ, announced a "quantum leap" a few days ago and presented its new battery technology 3Tron, which not only enables higher capacity, but above all should extend the service life of the energy cells to over ten years.
Eurobike Festival Days: A whole weekend of Eurobike for everyone

cycling: Eurobike 2016 with a new concept: Demo Day gives way to an additional public day
Eurobike: As soon as the Eurobike 2015 is over, the focus is already on next year. This is where the biggest changes for many years will take place, as announced by the organizer yesterday evening. The demo day will be completely omitted, but permanent test possibilities should be created. The public day also becomes […]
The Eurobike Festival Days are celebrating their premiere this year: On the weekend of September 3rd and 4th, the exhibition halls, which were only open to trade visitors on the previous days, will also be open to the public.
