MTB cycling: The Ischgl Ironbike is considered the Ironman for mountain bikers. In the supreme discipline, the riders had to cover no less than 70 kilometers with 3.400 meters of altitude difference last Saturday – due to the onset of bad weather the day before, the route was also changed slightly. Extremely tough conditions, with which the Swiss marathon champion Urs Huber coped best.
With the 22nd edition of the Ischgl Ironbike, the Swiss from Team Bulls was able to claim his third victory in the prestigious race. Urs Huber set the first scent mark on the ascent to the Idjoch, where he was able to confidently shake off the other riders on the first four hundred meters of altitude. Although Sascha Weber managed to catch up with the Swiss again as the race progressed, Huber was again able to open up a gap on the way to the Palinkopf. With a time of 3:07.53 hours, Urs Huber won in the end ahead of Sascha Weber (BQ Racing Team / 3:09.32 hours) and Hermann Pernsteiner (Team Centurion Vaude / 3:10.13 hours). A victory that obviously gave Huber joy: “I had really good legs on the Idjoch and I wanted to use them today. The weather change and the snow on the Idjoch didn't bother me. The race went perfectly for me, winning this tough marathon classic means a lot to me”. Team colleague Karl Platt finished eighth with a time of 3:14.12 hours. In the women's category, Silke Ulrich from Team Herzenst Cyprus won the supreme discipline.
