News in brief: On August 13, 2017, Hamburg will be the venue for the IRONMAN for the first time. The Hanseatic city can look forward to the fourth top-class endurance sports event in 2017 - in addition to the 1st Ironman Hamburg, the metropolis on the Elbe is also the host of the Haspa Marathon Hamburg, the Cyclassics and the ITU World Triathlon Series also has one of its stops in northern Germany.
"With its enthusiasm for sports, Hamburg has established itself over the past three decades as an important location for endurance sports events with high demand, especially triathlon. So it was only logical to place another top event in this area," says Christian Toetzke, Managing Director of the IRONMAN Germany Group. Preparations for the major event in August next year are already in full swing. The main focus here is on the route concept and concrete planning.
Some key points of the route could already be announced in advance. According to this, a part of the Alster pier is planned as a start for the swim and the 180km long bike course is to lead through Hafen City and the southern part of the city. The running course is planned along the Inner and Outer Alster, the goal should be at the Rathausmarkt.
