Product news: ABUS becomes Movistar's new helmet sponsor

27 October 2016 by the editorial office

Cycling / Market: The German manufacturer ABUS becomes the new helmet outfitter for the Spanish WorldTour team Movistar. On the one hand, the aim of the cooperation is to make the ABUS brand better known internationally, but the cooperation with the professionals is also expected to provide valuable feedback for the development of future products.

A strong statement from ABUS: The manufacturer from the Ruhr area will be represented at the highest level of road cycling in the coming season and, with Movistar, is equipping what is probably the most successful team in recent years. So far, Movistar had been using helmets from the Spanish manufacturer Catlike.

"ABUS pursues a stringent, sustainable strategy in sports sponsorship. On the one hand, we are concerned with the manifestation and expansion of the positioning as a sporty helmet brand, and on the other hand with increasing awareness of the umbrella brand ABUS - especially in the international markets. The cooperation with the Movistar team is ideal for this: the media coverage via a wide variety of channels is enormous, plus the year-round global presence - the season begins in January and only ends in November - and the emotional component of the 'fascination of cycling' with characteristics such as team spirit , passion and ambition,” comments Christian Rothe, member of the ABUS management board, on the new cooperation.

Which models Nairo Quintana and Co. will be on the road with in the coming year is not yet revealed. They are working flat out on a new aero helmet and a high-end racing helmet. You can look forward to new products from ABUS in the coming weeks.
