cycling: Tour de France 2017 Presentation: Only 36 km of time trials

18 October 2016 by Michael Behringer

Cycling: The route of the Tour de France 2017 has just been announced in Paris. It runs over 3.516 kilometers from Düsseldorf to Paris and also visits Luxembourg and Belgium. As expected, Trier is not one of the stage locations. In addition, only 36 time trial kilometers have to be completed.

After the time trial on July 1st in Düsseldorf, the riders cycle the following day from the Rhine metropolis via Liège and Verviers (Belgium) to Longwy. Then it goes from Mondorf-les-Bains (Luxembourg) to the municipality of Vittel. From now on, the stages of the 2017 Tour de France will only start and finish in France. A total of nine flat stages and five mountain and hill stages can be assumed. In addition to the opening time trial in Düsseldorf, another race against the clock will take place on the penultimate day in Marseille. However, the fact that only 36 kilometers of time trials have to be covered should suit pure mountain riders, such as Nairo Quintana (Movistar). This year there was already talk of a few kilometers on the time trial bike, although at 54,5 kilometers it was significantly more than in 2017.
