News in brief: At the Tour of Hainan, at the very end of his first season as a professional, Max Walscheid also achieved his first win of the season. After the Giant Alpecin pro had beaten Andrea Pasqualon (Team Roth) and Tino Thömel (RTS – Monton Racing) in the sprint, Walscheid brought down Matej Mohoric (Lampre-Merida) with an unfortunate action.
First professional victory for Max Walscheid with a strong sprint in the third stage of the Tour of Hainan - actually everything went perfectly for the 23-year-old neo-pro in the employ of Giant-Alpecin. “I stayed calm in the final and the lead-out was perfect. It's a great feeling to win the stage after coming so close twice and after a mentally difficult year for me," commented the winner of the day, who was seriously injured in the nasty Giant-Alpecin team crash in January.
A somewhat unfortunate action in the frenzy ended painfully for Matej Mohoric from Lampre-Merida. Walscheid celebrated and stopped quite abruptly for one of the cameramen to celebrate. Mohoric, who was driving behind Walscheid, was talking to a teammate and was unable to brake in time, hit Walscheid's rear wheel and rolled over. However, the Slovene was lucky and quickly got back on his bike – Walscheid, who was also frightened, immediately apologized to his colleague.
Fare l'incidente result!? 🚴😲😂
