Market: In recent years, the Cologne-based manufacturer Bombtrack has also made a name for itself outside of its original home in the rail and fixie sector with its wheels made primarily of steel. In the coming year, the portfolio will be expanded even further, with a particular focus on gravel and adventure.
Bombtrack 2017: Hook EXT and Beyond+ with the power of wide tires
Wider = Better? When it comes to bicycle tires, one tends to agree with this (admittedly greatly simplified) statement. Whether in road cycling, cyclocross or MTB: In recent years, the trend has actually been towards wider tires. So it happened that 25mm on the road could replace the 23mm tires as standard, or in the coming year countless mountain bikes with the new B+ tires of 2,8″ will come onto the market. This development is also finding its way into the Bombtrack portfolio and in 2017 there will be several models with wider tires than before.
The two highlights in this respect are certainly the new Hook EXT and the Beyond+. The Hook platform has been around for a number of years and with the EXT, the Hook 1, Hook 2 and Hook 3 models now have a new 'sibling'. The basic ingredients remain the same with the Hook EXT: Sporty/comfortable geometry with CX genes, a wide range of assembly options thanks to eyelets for mudguards and luggage racks and a slim, stylish steel frame. On the other hand, the 27,5″ wheels and the 2,1″ MTB tires on the complete bike are new. The circumference is about the same as with 28″ wheels and classic CX tires, but you get significantly more comfort and grip. Exactly the right thing for those who want to explore the off-road limits of the gravel trend.
Product news: Bombtrack Hook: Gravel Cross Travel Commuter
Market: In 2014 the Bombtrack Hook saw the light of day - originally designed as a classic cyclocross bike with a steel frame, it soon became apparent that buyers saw a much wider range of applications in the simple crosser. The Cologne-based manufacturer Bombtrack reacted to this and for the first time in 2016 there are three variants of the crosser that cover a wide range, […]
The Beyond+ takes a similar path. With the Beyond, a new adventure bike was introduced last year that not only made the hearts of bikepacking fans beat faster. The Beyond+ takes the concept of the original bike a little further and comes with 27,5+ tires in 2,8″ - for even more reserves off the beaten track, away from civilisation. With up to 5 mountable bottle holders, eyelets for front and rear racks and the SRAM NX group, it is well prepared for the next adventure.

Bombtrack 2017: Disc brakes for Arise and Tempest
Another recent development – at least outside of MTB sports – is the advent of disc brakes. So it's not too surprising that Bombtrack is also increasingly relying on modern stoppers. The all-round bike Arise presented last year comes exclusively with disc brakes in 2017. In addition, for the first time there will be a complete bike with Nexus 8 hub gears - previously the Arise was only available as a single-speed version.
The steel racer Tempest will also be available with disc brakes in the coming year. This is another reason why the 2017 version comes with quick-release axles at the front and rear. This not only increases the rigidity of the overall system, but also makes it much easier to install and remove wheels without rubbing. If you don't get used to discs on the racer, you can still use the classic Tempest with rim brakes: This now has a tapered head tube and a correspondingly adapted carbon fork. At €2.299, the Tempest Disc is slightly more expensive than the classic Tempest, which costs €1.999. Both variants come with Shimano's 105 group, wheels from DT Swiss and Deda attachments.
Bombtrack 2017: Hook with aluminum frame and urban runabout Outlaw
The Hook AL will also be the first aluminum crosser from Bombtrack in 2017 - previously the Hook 1 and Hook 2 were made of steel, and the Hook 3 was made of carbon. The geometry of the newcomer is more like that of the race-oriented Hook 3 than the somewhat more comfortable steel crossers. The drive comes with the Apex 1 from SRAM, the brakes are based on the proven TRP Spyre, which is one of the best mechanical disc brakes on the market. The Hook AL, which weighs 10,2 kg, will be available in spring at a price of €1.799.
racing bikes: Test: Bombtrack Hook 2 - steel crosser with broad horizons
Test: steel frame in 2016? Of course it still exists! The traditional frame material is celebrating a little revival these days and with the Bombtrack Hook 2 we have looked at a versatile crosser where the material fits like a glove. The bike had to prove itself to us in a wide range of applications and gave the testers […]
The Bombtrack Outlaw is brand new: The urban bike comes with 27,5″ wheels and 47mm wide tires from WTB. This should make even the most holey bike path less frightening. Otherwise, everything is designed for low-maintenance operation: the Automatix hub from SRAM works just like the belt drive without any problems, even with little maintenance and difficult conditions. The slim steel frame and only one outer shell (front brake, rear is stopped by back pedaling) ensure a clean look. At €1.799, however, the Outlaw is not exactly cheap and a correspondingly good lock is a must for use in the city.
