Cycling: As is well known, John Degenkolb will part with his previous employer Giant-Alpecin for the 2017 season and instead join the US team from Trek-Segafredo. With the British colleagues from cyclingnews.com the 27-year-old spoke about the goals for the season, about Fabian Cancellara and at the same time found surprisingly open and clear words about his old team.
Time to say goodbye to John Degenkolb. After five years, the 2015 Paris-Roubaix winner is turning his back on his German racing team and switching to Trek-Segafredo. When the transfer was announced a few months ago, it didn't really come as a surprise to anyone. It had long been rumored that the German would inherit from Fabian Cancellara, who was retiring. Degenkolb now opposes this representation in an interview with the British cycling portal Cyclingnews. "I'm not a replacement for Fabian Cancellara." he clarifies there. “I am a completely different type of driver. The only thing we're similar to is that I'm expected to deliver results similar to his." so sword butt. However, he has no problem with the high expectations, on the contrary: "You need that pressure," he clarifies.
cycling: Officially! John Degenkolb from 2017 for Trek-Segafredo
Cycling: John Degenkolb is moving to the US-Italian racing team Trek-Segafredo for the coming season. The 27-year-old signed a 3-year contract and is committed to his new sporting home until 2019. There he should fill the gap left by the newly crowned Olympic gold medalist Fabian Cancellara after the end of his career. Dege also brings with Koen de Kort a long-standing [...]
Saying goodbye to Giant-Alpecin was difficult for him, he reports, but in the end things didn't seem right between him and the sporting management. "I ended up not liking the way management was leading the team." Degenkolb finds surprisingly clear words. "I asked for more support in the classics but didn't get it [...] I had too little influence on decisions that affected me as a driver." Degenkolb is all the more looking forward to his new sporting home, where he “to an even better cyclist” could become.
Between the lines, Degenkolb also hints that he had toyed with the idea of moving to BORA-hansgrohe. "When I had to make a decision about my future, nothing was decided about Bora." In the future, however, his path could definitely lead to a German racing team again. "It would be a dream to be part of a strong German team - but that's just a dream for the moment [...] I'm super happy to be part of Trek-Segafredo now. It's the right team for me."
In any case, we are looking forward to the new season and hope that the change was the right decision for Dege.
