MTB News / Spectrum: At the Snow Bike Festival Gstaad 2017, UCI points will be contested on snow for the first time. The stage race in the Swiss Alps has been run by the World Cycling Union UCI as a Stage Race Class 2 race for a few weeks now. So the race is not only about the prize money, but also about important UCI points.
The festival in Switzerland, which is very special in its own way, not only wants to appeal to fans of the thick skins, but also to those who are curious and want to get to know the world of snow biking better. In addition to the 4-day stage race, spectators and participants can look forward to a spectacular Eliminator Nightrace and a large EXPO area at the upcoming edition. Fun and excitement are guaranteed in Gstaad!
The four-day stage race starts on January 19 with the prologue. The short route runs through the village center and along the promenade of Gstaad. On the following days, the fat bike riders will have to prove themselves on a total of three stages. The routes lead through the valleys and over the mountains, the drivers are rewarded with descents on ski slopes. The routes, which all start in the center of Gstaad, are up to 35 kilometers long. Between 500 and 1000 meters in altitude must be climbed on each stage.
Europe's “winter festival of snow biking” will take place from January 19th to 22nd, 2017. Online registration is already open.
