General: tex–lock – the textile-based, flexible bicycle lock

11 January 2017 by Christian Ettl

Market: The Leipzig start-up tex-lock offers an innovative, textile-based bicycle lock. By using high-tech materials, tex-lock wants to combine flexibility and security with a very low weight and a pleasant feel.

Anyone who wants to secure their bike knows the problem: classic bike locks are sometimes heavy, difficult to handle and often not exactly decorative. All cyclists, whether city cyclists, mountain bikers or racers, can nowadays choose from the latest and most modern technologies, high-tech materials and the most beautiful designs. However, for the safety of their beloved means of transport or sports equipment, they are dependent on unwieldy, heavy steel constructions.

This is where tex-lock comes in. According to the inventors, it is light, beautiful and safe. The innovative bicycle lock consists of textile high-tech materials that have already proven their function in the automotive and aerospace industries. Its multi-layer construction offers a functional interior, making tex-lock immune to the classic methods of attack with fire, cutting and striking tools. The outer skin made of dirt-repellent material enables unprecedented design options and a pleasant, elegant feel. The tex-lock bicycle lock consists of a multi-layer rope that weighs only 350 grams per meter, specially developed steel eyelets with a plastic coating and a padlock. As a result, tex-lock does not rattle or scratch and is very flexible, practical and pleasant to use.

The founders of the Leipzig start-up combine many years of experience in product development and textile design with a passion for the latest technologies and, of course, for cycling. From February 5, 2017, the founders will be giving interested parties early access to this innovative product “Made in Germany” through their Kickstarter campaign. The market launch of the tex—lock bicycle lock is planned for the 2017 season.
