Product news: RockShox 2017: The rebirth of the Judy - more travel for Reba and Recon

March 21, 2017 by the editorial office

Market: In the RockShox suspension fork lineup in 2017 there is a reunion with an old friend – the Judy. Reba and Recon also get more travel and some technical improvements.

The venerable RockShox Judy had disappeared from the MTB scene for more than ten years. In 2017, the cult fork will celebrate its surprising comeback - of course in a modern guise. The new Judy is designed as a fork for ambitious beginners: With spring travel between 80 and 120mm, 27,5″ and 29″ models and generous tire clearance of up to 2,8″, it is also a versatile all-rounder for various areas of use somewhere between cross country and trail .

The casting of the new RockShox Judy is a completely new development. The design was based on the successful and long-running Pike model, which brings weight and rigidity into harmony like hardly any other fork. The new Judy is supposed to master exactly this balancing act, which, like all high-quality forks from the US manufacturer, will also be available with black-coated aluminum stanchions. There will be two model variants for the rebirth of the Judy; while the RockShox Judy Gold RL with proven Motion Control damping will be available in the aftermarket for between €420 and €500, the somewhat simpler Judy Silver TK with silver stanchions and TurnKey damping is reserved for the OEM market.

Both variants are offered exclusively for the new Boost axle standard with 15mm thru axles and are compatible with RockShox Torque Caps. During April the new Judys should be available here.

More travel for the Recon and Reba

RockShox also worked on the rest of the suspension fork lineup for 2017. The two successful all-rounders Reba and Recon are not only getting a visual facelift, there are also a few technical innovations. In the future, all variants of the Recon will rely on the potent Motion Control damping and, like the Reba, there will be a variant with variable spring travel between 130 and 150mm for light trail use. Both forks will also be available in 2017 for Boost and conventional 15x100mm axles. The 29″ Boost models offer enough tire clearance that even thick 3″ B+ tires have enough space.
