Market: After Lidl has already presented some bicycle offers, the next discounter giant, Aldi Süd, will follow suit this week. In addition to some old well-known products, there will also be new bicycle accessories from next Thursday, April 6th; including for the first time an assembly stand. The Aldi bike offers 2017:
Aldi bikemate bicycle basket
Bicycle baskets have been available from Aldi Süd for several years. Discounter experts should already be familiar with both the classic variant for the luggage rack and the handlebar basket. However, both baskets are not intended for bulk purchases: the handlebar basket is already loaded with 5kg, but you can still store up to 7kg of luggage at the back. The quick-release system for the handlebar basket has always made a good impression in the past: it is quite clumsy, but it works reliably and can be attached to almost any handlebar.

Aldi bikemate bicycle panniers
Baggage bags are also nothing new in the discounter's range, but they seem to have been properly revised this year, both optically and technically. They can be attached to any luggage rack with a quick-release fastener – even on one side if you wish. Even if the brochure and website are silent on specific dimensions, there seems to be a total of three sizes and an urban-style variant with a shoulder strap is now on offer. If you are interested in the bags: Check back at Velomotion in the coming days, we were able to get hold of a copy and test it for you before the start of sales.

Aldi bikemate pannier
Another old acquaintance: The bikemate bike bag has also been available in this form for several years: The almost 20cm long and 10cm high bag is attached to the top tube with a Velcro fastener and not only serves as a storage option for tools, provisions or the like, but also accommodates it in a separate compartment also the smartphone. The highlight: there is a viewing window on the top, through which the display can not only be read, but through which you can also operate your mobile phone thanks to the special coating on the inside. If you like to travel a lot in wind and weather, you have to be careful: the bag is water-repellent, but not waterproof.

Aldi prophete bike lock
Bicycle locks were of course also available at Aldi every season: but the two prophetic locks this year are newcomers, at least at the discounter. The 120cm long chain lock is available as a slightly lighter version with a 6mm diameter and combination lock and as a robust 8mm version with a key. Both locks should reliably deter casual thieves - but past experience has shown time and again that it is not worth saving on the lock when it comes to expensive bikes. So if you want to secure your €3.000 fully, your €5.000 e-bike or your carbon racer, you should invest more. For the cheap city bike, however, locks like the prophete are sufficient in most cases.

Aldi bikemate bike computer
The term "bicycle computer" may be a bit exaggerated for the small bikemate speedometer, but it is certainly sufficient for the hobby cyclist who does not need exact performance data and just wants to keep an eye on the distance and speed. Most buyers should not have too high expectations anyway: Where else can you find a wireless bike computer for less than 10€? A nice gimmick is the small "solar cell", which takes over part of the power supply when the sun is shining and increases the battery life.

Aldi bikemate bike assembly stand
At Lidl, the assembly stand is already part of the program and has long since ceased to be an insider tip among hobby mechanics. Now, for the first time, Aldi also has a cheap repair stand among the promotional products: While the retaining clip is suspiciously reminiscent of that of the discounter competition, the foot seems to be constructed a little differently. The stand can be folded to save space and is designed to reliably fix bikes weighing up to 30kg, so it is also suitable for e-bikes. The scope of the song also includes a magnetic tool tray that can be attached to the standpipe. At the low price, the assembly stand is certainly a hot tip for occasional screwdrivers.

Aldi bikemate bike mudguard set
For many cyclists, mudguards are nothing more than a necessary evil that is not necessarily a visual highlight, especially on mountain bikes. For this reason, detachable and/or flexibly mountable models are often used. The Aldi set consists of a length-adjustable mudguard for the rear wheel, which is fixed to the seat post and should form a decent splash guard for most bikes. The front mudguard is attached to the down tube and should be pretty much a lost cause in wet conditions; rudimentary splash and mud protection yes, decent fender no.

Bicycle S'Trace bicycle saddle
In contrast to most of the other promotional items, the bicycle saddles do not come from Aldi's own brand bikemate, but from S'Trace. Bicycle saddles are also sold under this name in other online and offline shops. In addition to two differently padded gel saddles for city and trekking, there is also a slightly more sporty MTB model in the range. Unfortunately, there is no information about the exact dimensions and saddle width; In general, a “saddle blind purchase” is only recommended for occasional riders – if you ride your bike more and regularly, you should invest more time and money in a suitable saddle. Good bicycle dealers offer special measurement methods and test saddles for different preferences. However, occasional drivers can also give the Aldi saddles a chance.

Aldi bikemate bicycle lamp set
Another old friend - we took a closer look at the Bikemate lighting set two years ago and it doesn't seem to have changed since then - why should it? For less than 10€ you get a decent lighting set according to StVZO. Certainly not right for regular night riding on unlit bike lanes, but just right for being recognized in the city. If you value more quality, better illumination and longer battery life, you should take a look at our list of the best bicycle lamps - there is a wide selection in all price ranges.

Aldi bikemate mini bicycle pump
Air pumps are part of the basic equipment of every cyclist - whether professional, hobby athlete or occasional cyclist. Compact hand pumps like the bikemate mini pump have the advantage that they can be easily stowed away - whether on the side of the bottle holder or in the backpack. The disadvantage, however, is the poor pump performance, even high-priced mini pumps and the Aldi model shouldn't pull out any trees here either; the maximum pressure of 5,5 bar also suggests this. What is unusual for this price range, however, is the integrated pressure gauge and the ability to switch the pump between high pressure and high volume. The pump head fits all valves.

Aldi bikemate floor pump
Even more pumps: We definitely recommend purchasing a floor pump for your home. The Aldi model meets the most important basic criteria, pumps up to 6,5 bar, has a manometer and a pump head that fits all common valve types. When it comes to ergonomics, workmanship and stability, however, you will have to make compromises compared to slightly more expensive branded models. If you only pump occasionally and can live with it, you can strike here without hesitation. Everyone else should pay a visit to our list of the best floor pumps - there are floor pumps in all price ranges with extensive tests.

Aldi bikemate inner tubes
Inexpensive bicycle inner tubes are always welcome - even if they usually can't quite keep up with the brand models in terms of puncture resistance and weight, they are perfectly fine as spare or emergency inner tubes. Aldi again has inner tubes for MTB and trekking in all sizes; However, you have to do without hoses with the Sclaverand valve, which is particularly widespread on sports bikes, and there are also no dedicated hoses for narrow tires.
Price: € 2,99
Aldi bikemate bicycle helmet
A bicycle helmet from the discounter? Why not - after all, a cheap helmet is better than none at all and the Aldi helmet should also meet the most important basic criteria. However, compromises will have to be made in terms of ventilation and weight. The integrated LED rear light as additional lighting and the adjustment system are nice. However, you should definitely try the helmet on before you buy it; if it doesn't fit well, you won't wear it regularly anyway.

Aldi crane bicycle backpack
Two backpacks for cycling and leisure are coming from Crane again. We already had a quick check of the small model with 6,1L last year, and we are currently taking a close look at the large 9,5L backpack - a test will be published in the next few days.
