Spectrum: Cycling's coming home: Tour de France on July 2nd in Kaarst-Büttgen

April 18, 2017 by Andrew Waldera

Spectrum / Cycling: Düsseldorf is looking forward to the 2017 Tour de France. After many years, the most important cycling race in the world starts again in Germany. The second stage from Düsseldorf to Liège leads, among other things, through Kaarst-Büttgen, the home of the traditional cycling club VfR Büttgen.

The passage of the Tour de France 2017 on July 2nd through Kaarst-Büttgen will be expanded to the “Tour up close” event. The organizational team is planning a big party with an extensive supporting program for this special day. But even before that, cycling fans are offered a lot! With numerous campaigns and projects, the tension is to be increased further until the actual date. In addition to bicycle tours and two exhibitions, the "Sprint to May" is also being held, which is the dress rehearsal for the Tour de France event. Exactly two months before the tour passes through Kaarst-Büttgen, the cycling sculpture by artist Dieter Patt will also be unveiled.

The VfR Büttgen club based in Kaarst-Büttgen has already produced many well-known cyclists. Both cycling legend Rolf Gölz and tour professional Erik Zabel have announced their coming for the big highlight on July 2nd.
