Clothing: Review: Gore ONE Pro

11 May 2017 by Michael Faiss

Cut: Everyday / MTB
Size: Falls normally
hood: Ja

Price: € 460,00

For years, GoreTex has stood for first-class membranes for outdoor use, whether on hard or soft shell jackets. However, not only the material is manufactured, but for some time now, under the Gore Apparel label, the company has also had its own clothing in its range, which has an excellent reputation among athletes and outdoor fans in particular. Of course, we were all the more excited to see what the top model, the Gore ONE Pro, can do at a price of €460. The material is typically Gore stiff and simply feels high-quality. The fit of the jacket is excellent, the cut is quite sporty, but at the same time completely suitable for everyday use. A very nice detail is the fold-out apron on the back part, which is already pulled down anyway - this way, your bottom is guaranteed to stay dry even in heavy rain.

In any case, it is the many clever detailed solutions that inspire with the Gore ONE Pro: Reflective elements are attached all around, but they are all very dark and hardly recognizable in normal daylight. The clean look is retained, but spotlights fall on the jacket, for example the large reflector on the top of the hood lights up. The latter is also very well thought out and can also be adapted very well to your own needs: It fits over a helmet, but can also be tightened in fractions of a second. The collar is lined with soft fleece on the inside and provides a lot of comfort.

Ventilation openings are under the arms and can be adjusted with a zipper. In addition to the two obligatory zip pockets on the front, Gore has also given its noble jacket a practical Napoleon pocket next to the main zip at chest height. The weather protection is - as was to be expected - at an excellent level: all zips and seams are sealed, the material lets the water roll off so reliably even after a few uses that the jacket is almost completely dry even after long rain showers. Great.

Wow! Gore is asking almost €500 for its new top rain jacket - but when you hold the Gore ONE Pro in your hands, you know why: The workmanship is unrivalled, everything feels very valuable, from the Velcro fasteners to the material itself. The weather protection the new Gore membrane is very good and even in heavy rain water doesn't stand a chance. The cut is comfortable and should be suitable for many areas of application. Since this is a classic hardshell jacket, the membrane is very stiff and you have to do without stretchy comfort.
