General: Review: Sugoi Zap Bike Jacket

May 11, 2017 by Michael Faiß

Cut: Athletic
Size: Turns out big
hood: No

Price: € 139,90

The Sugoi Zap Bike Jacket lives up to its name: ZAP! best describes the unique look of the jacket, especially at night. There are countless small, reflective dots on the outer material, which make the entire jacket light up when the light hits it at night. It is these small, silver dots that give the Sugoi jacket a unique look and feel, even during the day. They are slightly raised and easy to feel - it takes some getting used to at first, but it doesn't feel cheap at all. The cut of the Sugoi Zap is undoubtedly more geared towards sporting use, with an extremely long back part, without a hood and a more body-hugging cut. Overall, however, the jacket is quite large and offers enough space for a second layer of clothing.

On the back you will find the only pocket of the jacket, which is arranged in the middle and protected from moisture with a Velcro fastener. It offers enough storage space for a smartphone and the most necessary utensils during the journey. However, those who like to stow their household goods in their jacket pockets will hardly be happy with the Sugoi. We think it's a bit of a shame that there aren't any ventilation openings, since it can get a little sweaty under the Sugoi - as with any rain jacket - on longer journeys. Another point of criticism is the cuffs: These are very wide and equipped with a simple rubber band. If you have thin forearms, there is no way to ensure a proper cuff and you have to help yourself with Velcro straps or something similar.

The weather protection of the Sugoi Zap is good, the zip is sealed and the contents of the back pocket stay dry when riding in the rain. Problems here, however, caused the cuffs that were too loose, through which the water can quite easily push past into the inside of the jacket.

The Sugoi Zap Bike Jacket is a sporty rain jacket that impresses with its very good visibility at night. But even when it comes to weather protection, it doesn't have to hide from more expensive models. We found the very wide cuffs, which also cannot be adjusted, to be less successful. However, the thick material in combination with the mesh on the inside and the lack of ventilation openings makes for a fairly heated climate inside after just a few minutes.
