Test: The Italian shoe manufacturer Sidi is known for its high-quality products. After we tested the Sidi Shot in spring, we now wanted to take a close look at the MTB counterpart for you. The Sidi Tiger also uses the new Double Tecno 3 Push closure system, and we also had the Tiger with us in the optically very appealing Limited version.
As you can easily see, the Sidi Tiger Limited sticks to the classic Sidi design. Compared to its predecessor, the Sidi Drake, the Tiger is now equipped with a Double Tecno 3 Push closure system running centrally over the instep. The pressure is distributed better and, above all, more evenly over the upper foot and it is also easier to put on and take off. The closures work perfectly even in the heaviest dirt or mud. An adjustable heel area, using two small screws and a clip, also ensures an optimal fit. Even after long climbs or uneven descents, we didn't have to loosen our shoes and didn't feel any uncomfortable pressure points. With the push button, the screw cap can also be quickly released again, so you can make a small correction while driving.
With the light and super-stiff MTB SRS carbon sole, the Sidi Tiger also ensures optimal power transmission. Replaceable profile inserts made of plastic in the toe, midfoot and heel areas ensure a perfect grip on muddy and slippery surfaces. This should also be particularly interesting for crossers, because nothing is more annoying than losing crucial seconds during a carrying passage. The dirt can be easily removed after the ride. A replaceable nylon plate for attaching the pedal cleats offers protection against damage to the carbon surface.
The Techpro upper consists of microfiber synthetic leather with Oeko-Tex certificate that combines breathability and water resistance. The material of the Sidi Tiger Limited adapted well to the foot right from the start. Another innovation are additional mesh inserts, which are intended to increase breathability even further. Here, however, water can enter more easily when it rains and it is easier to collect dirt. The black tigers put up with it without any problems and after a light hand wash with water they look like new again.
Another feature is the so-called rubber toe. The tip of the Sidi Tiger shoe has been rubberized to effectively dampen stone impacts or large stones. The slightly padded insole made of ergonomically shaped foam has a memory effect, but nowadays there are much better alternatives for individual needs. With approx. 680 grams per pair in size 44, the Sidi Tiger Limited is also on the upper edge of the top mountain bike shoes in terms of weight.
