Cycling: The Tour de France rolls on tomorrow after the first rest day. With the tenth stage, a very flat section awaits the remaining drivers. Under normal circumstances, nothing should change in the overall standings at the front. In the fight for the green jersey, however, this section is extremely important. How do André Greipel (Lotto Soudal) and Marcel Kittel (Quick-Step Floors) present themselves?
The next mass sprint is expected
After the first rest day the tenth stage of the Tour de France is on the agenda for Tuesday. It takes the drivers over 178 kilometers from Périgueux to Bergerac. On the way there are two mountains of the fourth category to conquer. The Côte de Domme (3,5 km at 3,3%) is climbed 77,5 kilometers before the finish and the Côte du Buisson-de-Cadouin (2,1 km at 5,6%) 39,5 kilometers. No rider in the Tour de France field should struggle on these climbs. Accordingly, a mass sprint can be assumed. The teams Quick-Step Floors, Lotto Soudal, Katusha-Alpecin, Cofidis, Dimension Data and LottoNL-Jumbo should participate in the follow-up work. Outliers will therefore have little chance of success.
Our tip: Marcel Kittel will be the new German record holder
The field of sprinters is thinning out more and more. After Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) and Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data), Mark Renshaw (Dimension Data) and Arnaud Démare are no longer part of the Tour de France 2017. It is certainly a pity that the entire sprint elite is no longer at the start , but maybe this will make the mass sprints a little calmer and more controlled. Either way, there can only be one favorite tomorrow: Marcel Kittel. The German has already won three stages in the 2017 Tour de France. As a result, he drew level with Erik Zabel. If Marcel Kittel now gets his thirteenth victory, he is the sole German record holder. Ironically, another German is likely to be his biggest competitor. André Greipel (Lotto Soudal) could also draw level with Marcel Kittel and Erik Zabel if he wins. It's hard to believe in another stage winner as no one has excelled consistently so far.
*** Marcel Kittel
** André Greipel, Nacer Bouhanni
* Alexander Kristoff, Michael Matthews, Edvald Boasson Hagen
