cycling: BinckBank Tour stage #1: Peter Sagan just ahead of Phil Bauhaus

August 7, 2017 by Michael Behringer

Peter Sagan

Cycling: Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) won the first stage of the BinckBank Tour. The world champion narrowly prevailed in the mass sprint against the German Phil Bauhaus (Sunweb).

Duel between the two German teams – no sign of Marcel Kittel

Peter Sagan has clinched the next win. But the Slovak had to bite hard today. Phil Bauhaus made life difficult for him. The young German almost triumphed on the almost 170-kilometer stage from Breda to Venray. Only after watching several times could the spectators see that the world champion was again chosen as the winner. Of course, Peter Sagan also takes the lead in the overall standings of the former ENECO Tour, which this year will be held for the first time under the sponsorship of BinckBank. Behind the exciting duel between the two German teams, Magnus Cort Nielsen (Orica-Scott) moved up to third place. There was no sign of Marcel Kittel (Quick-Step Floors) in the final. Rick Zabel (Katusha-Alpecin) was sixth, André Greipel (Lotto Soudal) ninth. Even without Marcel Kittel, German cycling has three sprinters in the top nine.
