MTB cycling: Last weekend the penultimate race of the 2017 Mountain Bike World Cup season took place in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada. Both the cross-country and downhill elite fought for important points for the overall standings. Manuel Fumic and Johannes Fischbach were able to convince with strong performances.

The classic Mont-Sainte-Anne was also an integral part of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup calendar this year. The Canadian town near Quebec City welcomed the world elite of mountain biking for the 25th time this weekend. The XCO and Downhill World Cup races were on the program. While the XCO Elite competed for points as part of the Mountain Bike World Cup for the fifth time this season, the downhill riders were allowed to compete for the sixth time. The conclusion of the Mountain Bike World Cup 2017 marks the 26th and 27th of August in Val di Sole in Italy – also as a double event.
Manuel Fumic, who at times even led the men's XCO field, impressed with a very strong performance. In the end, however, another driver won - and it can really be said: Once again Nino Schurter, who seemed unbeatable in this World Cup season! The Swiss was able to claim his fifth World Cup victory in a row. The Frenchman Stephane Tempier finished second ahead of the Italian Gerhard Kerschbaumer, Manuel Fumic finished sixth. In the women's category, the Ukrainian Yana Belomoina closed the sack: With the day's victory, she also secured the overall victory.

The downhill elite were already fighting for points the day before – and it was raining. In particular, the top drivers who started later were clearly at a disadvantage. Despite the adverse conditions, the fastest qualifier Aaron Gwin from the USA drove to the top step of the podium with an outstanding run. As a result, he was able to relegate Australian Dean Lucas, who started before the rain, to second place. Third place went to Danny Hart from Britain. Johannes Fischbach, who achieved a very good result with 16th place, caused enthusiasm among the Germans. Before the men's final, the women were already chasing points. In the women's race, Tahnée Seagrave from England set the best time. The podium was completed by Myriam Nicole from France and Tracey Hannah from Australia.
