Cycling: The Federation of German Cyclists (BDR) has announced the provisional squad for the Road World Championships in Bergen. John Degenkolb and Tony Martin lead the team as captains, given the difficult course in Norway, the sprinters André Greipel and Marcel Kittel are not included. Before the start of the World Championship on September 17, two drivers still have to be removed from the provisional squad.
From September 17th to 24th, the title battles for the World Championship medals on the road will once again take place in Bergen, Norway. The topographically extremely demanding course differs fundamentally from the completely flat track in Doha last year. So it is not too surprising that the BDR does without the top stars André Greipel and Marcel Kittel, who would not have been of any help to the team in view of the numerous meters in altitude here. Instead, John Degenkolb will captain the road race on September 24th. The Trek-Segafredo professional is supported by Emanuel Buchmann, Nico Denz and Simon Geschke, among others.
In the time trial, the German team starts with three professionals, since Tony Martin, as the defending champion, has a personal right to start. The remaining two starting places go either to Nikias Arndt, Nils Politt or Jasha Sütterlin.
