Market / Eurobike 2017: High-quality trekking bikes are still an exciting affair for many cyclists even in 2017, when a lot revolves around higher, crasser and more extreme bike concepts. With the Contoura Air One, the North German manufacturer Contoura has a really exciting new model in its range, which in its top version only weighs a little more than 10kg.
The manufacturer Contoura, based in Hoya on the Weser, is something special for several reasons: On the one hand, there is the individual production of each individual bike according to customer requirements, be it frame colour, equipment, frame shape and much more - the customer has a free hand here. The fact that all work steps still take place at the company's own headquarters, including the complex individual powder coating and delivery to the dealer with our own drivers, is by no means a matter of course. But in 2017, one thing above all stands out: At Contoura, the focus is still on wheels without a motor. This is unusual nowadays in the area in which most of the bikes from the North German manufacturer are located, namely trekking, touring and city, but all the more refreshing.
One of the big highlights for the coming season is the new Contoura Air One. Basically, the newcomer is a trekking bike, but at the same time far removed from the somewhat stuffy image that this long-established type of bike now has. The fact that the bike with its aluminum frame is sometimes aimed at a sporty clientele is shown by the track attack version - in top equipment with the SRAMS Force CX group, it weighs just 10,4 kg with full equipment - lights, mudguards, luggage rack. However, an impressive €3.199 will then also be due for this noble bike.
But don't worry - the Air One is also available in significantly cheaper versions and still doesn't mutate into a lead-heavy Biedermeier. For example, if you are content with the slightly heavier, normal frame, you can get the Contoura Air One with 2×11 Shimano 105 gears for €1.699. Yes, here too you are still in the premium segment of trekking bikes, but there is also an individually designable, high-quality frame and an individual structure instead of 0815 mass-produced goods.
Particular attention was also paid to the variant with a trapezoidal frame: Here there are organic frame shapes, striking lines and thus a unique look. Of course, the traditional diamond frame is a bit lighter overall and maybe a few percent stiffer when pedaling, but this should only play a subordinate role for most buyers.
The Contoura Air One is not yet available - but in the near future you can have your own individual setup www.my-wish-wheel.com together and make an appointment directly with the nearest dealer.
