Product news: Eurobike 2017: Ergon with women's and comfort saddles and MTB grip

September 11, 2017 by the editorial office

Ergon is expanding its portfolio with women-specific road and mountain bike saddles and the ST Core Ultra touring saddle with a new comfort concept. This is joined by the GA3 all-mountain grip.

Women's specific saddles from Ergon for road bikes and mountain bikes

Ergon's women's saddles for road bikes and mountain bikes, developed from scratch, were created in close cooperation with the Canyon/Sram UCI road team and were largely implemented under the direction of a sports scientist and two industrial designers. Active female riders who know about the special demands placed on a women's saddle. And these demands should be optimally met by two road bike and two mountain bike models. With all four new models, Ergon has taken the peculiarities of the female anatomy into account. All four saddles are available in 2 saddle widths: S/M for a sit bone distance of 9 to 12 cm and M/L for a sit bone distance of 12 to 16 cm.

SR Sport Gel Women and SR Pro Women – women's saddles for road bikes

Both road bike variants have a generous relief opening, which leads to a clearly noticeable pressure relief in the genital area and thus effectively prevents complaints. A short, yet wide saddle nose creates an additional relief area and should guarantee the cyclist full mobility on the seat. Visually very similar, the SR Sport Gel Women (€90) has comfort foam inserts with gel pads in the seat and genital area to keep seat pressure low by better distributing it. This task is performed on the lighter SR Pro Women (S/M, M/L: 200, 210 g / price: €130) by Orthocell inlays, which, according to Ergon, are lighter and more durable. The pelvis, which is more mobile in women, often tilts more forward, which can lead to a pressure center in the genital area. Both the cheaper SR Sport Gel Women version with chromo stays and the SR Pro Women with the elegant Tinox saddle rails are said to harmoniously combine above-average riding comfort and a slim, sporty design thanks to the aforementioned shape and technical details. The saddles are definitely distinguished by their high-quality design. A real eye-catcher is the optional berry color variant of the SR Sport Gel Women, which Ergon supplies with matching handlebar tape in the same color.

SM Women and SM Sport Gel Women: the two new MTB women's saddles

Ergon also offers the striking, life-affirming berry color for the SM Sport Gel Women mountain bike saddle. According to Ergon, the saddle designed for touring, all-mountain and enduro riders offers a real plus in comfort. This is also made possible by generous gel inserts in the seat and genital area that run up to the nose of the saddle. At the same time, the already shapely SM Sport Gel Women remains manageable in terms of weight at 285 g (S/M) or 295 g (M/L). Incidentally, this also applies to the price: the model on which Ergon has installed robust chromo struts costs €90. The new MTB comfort saddle for women has a generous relief opening to avoid pressure problems, just like the cheaper new MTB women's model (70 €), SM Women. Its developers inoculated it with comfort via the built-in foam comfort padding. The SM Women is also designed for touring, all-mountain and enduro bikers. For a large seat pressure distribution, Ergon uses a flat, even seat on both MTB models. The V-shape of both saddles is intended to provide optimal support for the pubic bone and shift the seat pressure to the sit bones. At the same time, the two MTB comfort saddles should guarantee maximum freedom of movement in technically difficult terrain thanks to the short saddle nose.

Comfort saddles for touring, touring and e-bikes: the ST Core models for men and women

Ergon is launching its new ST Core Ultra touring saddles in women's and men's versions, each in two widths. Special feature of the novelty with which the saddle builders want to provide ultimate riding comfort? A sandwich saddle construction, consisting of a lower support shell and an upper seat shell, which enclose the heart, an ergonomic, flexible damper core made of high-quality BASF foam. The saddle construction completes the seat with soft comfort foam and the large relief channel known from Ergon, which is intended to prevent numbness and discomfort in the genital and perineal areas. Consequently, the relief channel is adapted to the female or male anatomy. The white, ergonomic core supports the natural movement of the pelvis when pedaling and at the same time absorbs uneven ground. During the pedaling process, the seat bone of the half of the body is relieved where the pedals are up and the leg is bent. This is made possible by the deformable and quickly recovering foam core, thanks to which the saddle can move on the side of the currently loaded seat bone. The €150 ST Core Ultra is designed for the needs of trekking and touring cyclists as well as e-bike riders. It is available in the widths S/M and M/L, which covers a sit bone distance of 9 to 16 cm.

Ergon's first all-mountain grip for mountain bikes with ergonomic mini wings

In the new all-mountain model GA3, Ergon wants to have optimally combined the freedom of movement of a conventional, rather rounded mountain bike grip with the relief advantages and wrist support of an ergonomic wing grip. In addition, the 115 g light GA3 handlebar grip is round on the inside, and there is a mini wing on the outside of the grip - so to speak, the compact version of the wing of Ergon's touring grips. With an ergonomically shaped wing, the GA3, designed for all-mountain, trail and touring, offers the ball of the hand an enlarged contact surface and an ideal hand position, thus ensuring increased driving comfort. Speaking of which: the butted inner grip piece and the super-soft rubber compound produced in Germany are designed to increase cushioning on rough terrain. In conjunction with the textures on the grip surface, the soft rubber compound should ensure the best grip even under adverse conditions (wet!). The GA3 is clamped using an aluminum clamp on the inside, which has a practical scale that should simplify grip adjustment. With the GA3 (price: €29,95), mountain bikers can choose from five fresh colors: black, blue, orange, red and berry.
