Pendix is launching practical neoprene covers for its eDrive retrofit drive. The black neoprene pads are designed to protect against unsightly scratches and increased battery consumption in particularly cold climates.
Pendix has made a name for itself since autumn 2015 with its eDrive retrofit drive, which is elegantly integrated into the left crank unit, and the associated battery. The Zwickau-based company is continuing the tried-and-tested electric drive concept unchanged for 2018. This is how the electric motor and battery – the latter is available in the 300 Wh and the more durable 500 Wh version (max. range 105/160 kilometers) – transform a wide variety of bicycle types into e-bikes. The eDrive drive can be used on mountain bikes as well as on city and trekking bikes. Nothing stands in the way of using it on a cargo bike. Matching this, the battery can be individually attached to the bike in the form of a drinking bottle, which avoids space problems. And so that the aluminum battery housing made in Germany and the drive unit - for example when loading the bike into the car or on public bike racks - do not suffer from unpleasant scratches, the Pendix user can now effectively protect his eDrive with optional neoprene covers. These are available, as is the drive itself, from the Pendix specialist dealers. In addition, thanks to the black neoprene protectors, the eDrive batteries should be effectively protected against excessive consumption in severe sub-zero temperatures.

Extended dealer network, new Böttcher model
Speaking of which: the Zwickau-based specialist for retrofittable electric drives successfully expanded its network of dealers in 2017 and currently works with over 600 bike dealers. In addition, the eDrive is now available in eleven European countries; including bike-friendly Norway and the Netherlands. Böttcher is one of the bike brands that mount the Pendix eDrive on several models. The Schleswig-Holstein bike company is also using the eDrive on the new Jive model. The Copenhagen-based cargo bike manufacturer Christiania also installs the retrofit e-drive.
Unchanged: the performance parameters of the Pendix eDrive
The performance features of the compact e-retrofit drive Pendix eDrive remain the same: the eDrive provides a maximum of 50 Nm of torque, and the unit supports up to a maximum of 25 km/h. The pedaler manages the three modes Eco, Smart and Sport (assistance level: 75/150/200%) using a beautifully rastered, easy-to-use rotary wheel on the lithium-ion battery. If you want to increase your range, for example on long weekend trips, you can increase it to up to 320 kilometers by combining two Pendix batteries. With a purchase price of €1.990, this eDrive Flex 1000 model also represents a real investment. The eDrive 300 variant with a 300 Wh battery is the price entry point into e-bike riding pleasure for €1.490.

New, useful detail on the 300 Wh battery: charging the smartphone via the USB port
An extremely practical, new detail for 2018 can be found on the smaller 300 battery: the rider can charge a smartphone or bicycle lamp via the USB port.
