Ladies: Netherlands & Italy dominate
As expected, the Dutch women have seized control of the women. Both in the time trial and in the road race, the gold medal went to our neighbors. In the juniors, the only double world champion in the individual competitions was crowned. Italy's Elena Pirrone won the time trial and road race. Five medals went to Denmark and Australia - but none of them were gold. The German women definitely cannot be satisfied with the yield. At the end of the World Championships you were left without a medal. In the time trial for the juniors, however, it was close. Hannah Ludwig - who was already able to wear a medal in the team time trial - only just missed out on fourth place.

Men: Dumoulin wins for the first time, Sagan for the third time
At the World Championships in Bergen, one man outshined all the others: Peter Sagan (Slovakia) won his third World Championship gold medal in a row in Norway. Never before had a professional cyclist been able to do this. At the same time he drew level with Eddy Merckx with his third title. Sagan had been ill the week before, suffering from a sore throat, cough and runny nose. But on race day he was back in form. As did Tom Dumoulin a few days earlier. The Dutchman won the time trial world championship for the first time. In doing so, he triumphed in a manner not seen in a long time. The U23 road race was particularly interesting for the Germans. Lennard Kämna tore away, but then lost the final sprint and won silver. What would have been possible if the time trial specialist had competed against the U23 clock? He didn't have time for that because he had to win the gold medal for the World Team Championships with Sunweb the day before...
