cycling: 941km! Christoph Strasser is the new 24-hour track record holder

15 October 2017 by Michael Faiss

Cycling: Christoph Strasser is the new world record holder for 24 hours on the track. The Austrian broke the existing record of the Slovenian Marko Baloh after just over 23 hours and had finally completed 3767 laps - that's 941,87km. An incredible achievement.

Christoph Strasser has once again confirmed his reputation as probably the best ultracycling athlete at the moment. The multiple RAAM winner and 24-hour world record holder on the road can now also take credit for the world record on the track. After having to postpone the record attempt last year due to a cold, the 34-year-old's persistence has now paid off. At the Velodrome Suisse in Grenchen, Strasser's times were on course for records right from the start, but things didn't go entirely without problems for the extreme athlete either.

After a tough start with stomach problems and a small low early in the morning when the lap times got a little longer, he quickly found his rhythm again and broke the record of 2010 km, which had been in place since 903,76, about an hour before the end of the 24 hours . In the end it was more than 3500 laps and 941,87 km for Christoph Strasser, who got off his bike with incredible ease and celebrated his triumph with his crew. Incidentally, the 'beaten' record holder Baloh was also there and among the first to congratulate him. Big sport!
