Product news: Test: Velotoze overshoes - Top aerodynamics and water resistance

10 October 2017 by Florian Nowak

Test: With the overshoes from Velotoze, we have tested a practical accessory for you for autumn. Due to their tight fit and the material, the overshoes are extremely waterproof and windproof and therefore the perfect companion for damp and cool autumn days.

From the outside, the Velotoze look quite inconspicuous, an elastic latex shoe cover that smells like a balloon and is lightly rubbed with talcum powder. So what has made this overshoe a hit in the professional field for years, be it in rain races or time trials. If you take a closer look at the pictures, you can find the overshoes on at least one driver in almost every race.

The answer to the above question is relatively easy to answer: The Velotoze overshoes are extremely waterproof, aerodynamic and light due to their tight fit and material. But you have to take the first hurdle when you put it on, because you can't just pull the Velotoze Tall overshoe over your cycling shoe as usual. In this case, the overshoe is put on directly like a second sock, then rolled over the ankle and only then can you slip into the cycling shoe. In the last step, the overshoe is pulled over the cycling shoe from above. The whole process takes a while and is sometimes really exhausting due to the stretched rubber.

But the effort is worth it, because once you have the overshoe in place, you can enjoy all its advantages. The overshoe should be particularly interesting for time trialists who want to gain an aerodynamic advantage and can tickle off a few seconds thanks to the Velotoze. But the overshoe also has a lot to offer in training and for all cyclists thanks to its waterproof properties. Due to the tight fit, no water can run down the shin or calf from above into the shoe. All water simply rolls off the surface and the foot is kept dry. Unfortunately, there is no breathability, which is why the overshoes are perfect for use in rainy conditions from 5 to a maximum of 20 degrees, above that it just gets too warm or too cold. The overshoes are perfect for autumn rides. If you want a little more breathability or are just looking for lighter wind and water protection, Velotoze also has toe covers available, which offer the same advantages as the long overshoes, but only on the tip of the foot. In our opinion perfect for driving on slightly damp roads and 10-15 degrees in autumn or spring.

The Velotoze Tall is available in all colors for €23,95 and the Toe Covers for €17,95.
