cycling: CX World Cup in Bogense: 4 out of 4 for Van der Poel

19 November 2017 by Michael Behringer

Cyclocross: Mathieu Van der Poel is simply unbeatable in the World Cup. The Belgian also won the fourth race of the series today. No surprise for the women either: Belgian world champion Sanne Cant cheered as usual.

Van der Poel is unbeatable

In Bogense, Denmark, the next World Cup in cyclocross was held today in bright sunshine - and there was the next victory for Mathieu Van der Poel (Beobank-Corendon). Nothing new, because whether Iowa City, Waterloo, Koksijde or Bogense: All four World Cup races went to the Dutchman this season. Also today he left his biggest competitor behind: Wout Van Aert (Crelan-Charles). The Belgian crossed the finish line eight seconds later. In the sprint he still had to prevail against his compatriot Toon Aerts (Telenet Fidea Lions) and thus saved second place. But Mathieu Van der Poel's – in the truest sense of the word – clean slate can't get dirty in the World Cup.

You can't stop Sanne Cant

As usual, the women took to the track before the men. Once again the world champion threw up her hands at the finish line. Sanne Cant (Beobank-Corendon) was unbeatable again. This time, however, the Belgian had to worry a little more about her success. Shortly before the end she suffered a defect. Nevertheless, she was able to prevail in the end. British Helen Wyman (Kona) arrived nine seconds after her, 48 seconds later American Kaitlin Keough (Cannondale). In the World Cup, Sanne Cant is now well ahead of the competition with her 290 points.
